Shark Fin Inn, Melbourne CBD

The original Shark Fin restaurant is a little quieter these days. But I think that it's aged gracefully. It's food is familiar and customers come back to it in times of uncertainty. It's like a trusty old rugby jumper. You know exactly what it will feel like before you've even taken it out of the wardrobe. Similarly, we knew exactly what to expect before we had even made our reservation. A solid reliable yum cha selection interjected with bursts of polite no-nonsense service when required.

We started off with some filling dumplings and spring rolls to quieten our rumbling tummies.

Then we moved onto the more interesting steamed dishes. The bean curd skin wrapped parcels are one of my all time favourites. Similarly phoenix feet are also a must every single visit. Shark Fin does them well with lots of red sauce.

I also happen to have a massive obsession with tripe. Especially when it's soft and easily chewable. The strongly flavoured broth masked any unpleasantness and made them very tasty. Not only so, they are an awesome source of collagen and are rumoured to result in smoother skin.

Yes, we love mango pudding.
