Kang-Na-Roo, Clayton

This is one of those places that I've been wanting to blog about ever since I started this blog. But I've put it off fearing that I wouldn't be able to do it justice.

Kang-Na-Roo is special because of the special little lady that runs the place. She takes extra special care of us every single time, making sure that we have our side dishes, giving us extra stuff, and always remembering us.




The dishes have that great home-style taste to them and the flavours are clean and distinct. Nothing's too greasy or too strong. The quality of the dishes are always very consistent and I always order the dolsot bi-bim-bap. The prices are also very very reasonable and the portions are always generous.

Definitely one of the best in Clayton and one of our favourites in Melbourne.

Dim Sums for Lunch

Mummy buys these frozen dim sums from the Springvale Asian supermarket, which are actually quite excellent for a quick dim sum fix at home, on the couch, next to the heater, with Ollie.

Artichoke and Whitebait, Monash Uni

8am lectures are truly truly atrocious. But on the rare occasion that I do make the tremendous effort to attend, it is only fair to reward myself with a hearty breakfast afterwards.

Breakfast options on-campus are pretty limited. There are only two places that will offer a decent feed: Cinque Lire and Artichoke and Whitebait.

Since A&W opened, I must admit that we've neglected Cinque's just a tad. The appeal of A&W is that it is not too much of a walk and a cold winter morning is usually not my favourite time to take a hike.

The rustic food is fantastically delicious at A&W because the freshness of their ingredients makes the flavours ever so distinct. The staff are also fantastic and although it can get quite chaotic, they always try to look after everyone as much as they can.



Every week we will go to A&W at least a couple of times for lunch and we've been here so many times that the chef knows what we are going to order every time.

The veal schnitzel is a must try and their vanilla slices are simply divine!

Nachos Mexican Cantina, Mt Waverley

It's really surprising just how many decent restaurants can be found in the suburbs.

This place is a decent option in this part of Melbourne when the abundance of good kuay teow and briyani seems too boring to contemplate.

We rediscovered it after its relocation from Princes Hwy to Waverley Rd. It's located in the same spot HeTong used to be in a long long long time ago.

I must say that the new premises is a refreshing change. The service remains attentive and the food is still fantastic. Nom nom nom.

Homemade Lamb Roast

Cold winter's day and the wind is wrecking havoc outside. We come home, huddle under the heating duct and eat our lamb snuggled up in bed.

Sofia's, Glen Waverley

When I was little, I used to love coming out to Sofia's for a meal. But when we went earlier this year, I was a tad disappointed. The size of the dishes still amazes me and the serving sizes are generous to the point of being excessive. Most people will not finish a main sized dish by themselves.

However, once the excitement waned, the food itself was average, or in some cases, a bit below average. The herb bread lacked cheese and olive oil, and the carbonara sauce lacked thickness because it had not been reduced enough. Even noting the fact that we did dine there on a very busy Saturday night and I was with a large group of almost 20 people, these shouldn't be reasons for cutting corners in the kitchen.

Rich Maha, Vermont

Cheap food, but the style and flavors were a bit too authentic for me. It reminded me of a place called Sun-Raj near N's home in KL which I could never muster the enthusiasm for. Predictably, N loves both, so you might too.
